The POGO Physio Story
Brad Beer (Physiotherapist, Author, and POGO Founder and POGO Guru Physio) graduated from the Gold Coast’s very own Griffith University’s Physiotherapy and Exercise Science program in 2005. A mere 5 months after graduation Brad started what is now the current Mermaid Waters physiotherapy practice. At inception the practice was named My Back’s Physio. The practice was originally located in Surfers Paradise in the centre of the Gold Coast, from which it traded between the period of 2006-2008.
Brad was passionate about providing physiotherapy excellence for his patients as he recognised that a specialised approach to lower back pain management was not provided for by the physiotherapy industry. Brad quickly however diversified into general physiotherapy treatment for all conditions. Along the way though Brad built up a reputation for his ability to rehabilitate lower back pain which was aligned with the original back focussed approach the practice was founded with.
Between 2006 and late 2009 the My Back’s Physio practice blossomed and Brad grew the practice to one of the Gold Coast’s most reputable and trusted physiotherapy practices. In 2009 My Back’s Physio was awarded a Gold Coast Business Excellence Award for the Trades, Professions, and Services Category. The practice also relocated from Surfers Paradise to the Q Super Centre at Mermaid Waters (it’s current location).
In 2010 Brad rebranded his My Back’s Physio practice to become QLD’s first Back In Motion Health Group franchise. Accordingly the practice was renamed to Back In Motion Mermaid Waters. Alongside becoming QLD’s first Back In Motion franchisee with the Back In Motion Mermaid Waters practice Brad also assumed the role of Back In Motion QLD Area Director. Brad was responsible for the site selection and overseeing the launch of a further 3 QLD practices whilst he operated in this role. These practices were: Back In Motion Bundall, Back In Motion Mt Gravatt, and Back In Motion Bribie Island. Several of Brad’s hand picked and developed staff were positioned in these start up Back In Motion practices.
In 2011, 2012, and 2013 Brad and the Back In Motion Mermaid Waters team were awarded further Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards for the ‘Trades, Professions, & Services’ and ‘Wellness’ category. Between 2009 and 2013 Brad was also a finalist in the Gold Coast Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
Furthermore in 2013 Brad and the Back In Motion Mermaid Waters team became Back In Motion’s first $1.5 million practice. This ranked the practice as the leading practice in the national Back In Motion Health Group, and arguably one of Australia’s leading practices.
In 2014 Brad made the decision to end his time with the national Back In Motion franchise group and to surrender his QLD Area Directorship and Back In Motion Mermaid Water’s franchise licences. He concurrently surrendered his partnership with Justin Mistry at the Back In Motion Bundall practice.
Brad went on to retain the ownership of the Mermaid Waters practice and has as of the 1st April 2014 rebranded the practice to POGO Physio.
The purpose of POGO Physio is the help people perform at their physical best so that they can do the physical things that they love to do in life. We believe our community would benefit if people lived pain-free, performed at their best, and prolonged their physical health.
We look forward to welcoming you in to the POGO Story.
