How do you reverse years of poor body use with pilates?
POGO’s Pilates Pete explains… We start from scratch. Slowing re-learning and re-educating the body how to move correctly again.
This involves:
- Thinking about good movement (awareness)
- Practising good movement
- The movements will then become automatic or engrained and the muscle remembers them.
Pilates ensures every action is performed correctly to restore natural, normal, movement. If the brain receives the right messages these will be locked into the muscle memory banks.
It requires patience to build strength gradually. There are no shortcuts. We must develop awareness of your muscles and movement. This body awareness is key, when you know what you are doing when you move, you will automatically engage the right muscles and the rest will follow.
Change and learning take time. Rome wasn’t built in a day but it definitely was built so stick with it, keep a positive attitude, practice and trust that you will get there. To correct a lifetime of imbalance will not happen overnight but it will happen. Repetition, regular practice and dedication are key to achieving results.
And most of all it will be FUN. You will leave every class feeling stronger, taller and fitter.
Pilates is a terrific exercise form for reconditioning your body’s former poor or less than optimal movements.
