Transcript

Hey everyone, Emily from POGO Physio here today. I just wanted to take some time because I’ve had a few clients recently asking about cramps in their legs and what causes them. I just wanted to talk about a few of the theories that I’ve heard as to why people get cramps. You might get cramps through the day but a lot of people get them at night.

The main things I’ve heard are:

  1. Dehydration – if you are getting calf cramps at night so make sure you are drinking enough throughout the day.
  2. Electrolyte imbalance – some people get improvements in the calf cramps when they take magnesium powders. That’s something you can talk to your doctors or pharmacist about if that’s an option for you.
  3. Tight calves – when your lying in bed your feet are in a flexed position under the sheets so for that you can foam roll.

Thanks guys!
