Pete to Run Marathon for Tri4Cure
Pete to Run for Tri4Cure
BREAKING NEWS! EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!
Our Pilates Instructor, Pete will be running the Gold Coast Marathon for Tri4Cure
Tri4Cure is the campaign of a POGO Physio client, Kye Kanemura and his sister Pia to raise awareness and funds for Rett Syndrome research in hope for ultimately finding a cure for this debilitating disorder.
Pia was diagnosed of Rett Syndrome at the age of 2. She cannot walk, talk, eat nor do many other things that we able bodied people take for granted. She goes through a lot including epilectic seizures, broken bones from osteopenea, chest infections and pneumonia, to name a few and a simple cold can send her to hospital, at times for an extended period of time.
Kye completes the races he does by pushing Pia in a custom stroller when he can. An amazing achievement for a young man of just 14 years of age.
Kye will be running the 10km event on Saturday July 4 and then joining his family to walk the 5.7km challenge with Pia and his family.

It is Kye’s goal to one day run the marathon with Pia but he can’t just yet due to age restrictions for that distance.
Recently Tri4Cure was brought to Brad’s attention when he saw Kye at the Gold Coast Bulletin fun run. Since then we have been trying to think of ways we could assist Kye and Pia with their campaign.
Pete sustained a foot injury a few weeks and has not done much running since. His last long run was on May 23. Initially he thought I would not be able to do the marathon but his foot has come good and is going to run.
We asked Pete why he decided to run for this great cause, he had this to say;
‘I am a believer that all things happen for a reason. So to thank the universe for healing my foot I thought it would be best to put it to good use, to make the run about more than just myself and to run on behalf of Tri4Cure.
I know it will hurt and be a struggle but knowing i am running for someone else will keep me going. Will it be hard? Yes! Will it be worth it? Absolutely!
Kye himself is running the 10km on Saturday then joining his family who will be walking the 5.7km with Pia. They will have purple balloons tied to themselves. Please give them a cheer.
I am delighted, excited, honoured and humbled to be able to do this.’

About Kye and Pia (from their Mum AJ)
Thanks for your interest in Kye’s TRI4cure project. He’s been on it for over a year now. The main purpose of the project is to raise funds and awareness for Rett Syndrome.
His last year’s effort raised over $7,000US for International Rett Syndrome Foundation for their research effort.
Here is his FB page:

He has been on channel9’s Today show and Gold Coast News and was quite successful in spreading the word about this debilitating neurodevelopmental disorder his sister was born with.
As parents, my husband David and I helped them along the way, but it’s always been his project and his journey with his sister Pia. And so far, they’ve done quite a good job!
Please go through his page when you get a chance.
We look forward to hearing from you.
